Gaslight – a Psychological Thriller
Poor Bella, she is not well and she knows it. After all, her mother went mad and died in a lunatic asylum when she was Bella’s age. Her loving husband, Jack is doing his best to care for her, which can be pretty demanding at times. However, all is not what it seems in the Manningham household. When former Police Detective Rough arrives, investigating a 20 year old unsolved murder, things get more sinister.
“Gaslight”, a Victorian Psychological thriller, is guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat from the opening sequence to the final curtain. It’s because of this play and subsequent movie that the term “Gaslighting”, has established itself in the Oxford English Dictionary, bearing the definition: “Gaslighting: To manipulate (someone) by psychological means into doubting their own sanity.“
Bella is played by the inimitable Orla McSharry while Barry Duignan strays from his usual role as the love interest, to fill the role of the enigmatic “loving” husband Jack. Experienced actor Gerry Farrell plays ex-Detective Rough. SDC regulars Aine Gilmore And Niamh Leahy more than capably fill the remaining roles of Elizabeth and Nancy. Directed by Gerry Ryan, an entertaining, nail biting evening of drama is guaranteed.
“Gaslight” runs for four performances in The Factory Performance Space – Wednesday November 20th to Saturday November 23rd. Tickets costing €15/€12 can be booked on the Hawk’s Well Theatre Box Office on (071) 916 1518 or online on the Hawk’s Well website HERE
