“Yeats By Candlelight” Opens in Lissadell Church
“Yeats By Candlelight”, our production celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Nobel Laureate W.B. Yeats. opens this Wednesday night in Lissadell Church. With its association with the nearby Lissadell House and the Gore-Booth family, this is a perfect and unique setting to retell the story of the life of W.B. Yeats, with a special emphasis on the women in his life.
The show begins with Yeats’ first meeting with Maud Gonne and proceeds to share stories and anecdotes of his friends and lovers. These stories are given context with reference to the political and cultural life in Ireland at the time, mentioning Home Rule, the Anglo-Irish Literary Revival and, of course, the Easter Rising in 1916.
The show is interspersed with extracts from nineteen different Yeats poems which illustrate the unfolding story. Many pieces of information about W.B. Yeats are revealed of which many people may be unaware.
The opening show is in Lissadell Church on Wednesday October 7th; shows on October 8th and 9th are in the Methodist Church in Wine St.; the final show is in Kilmacowen Hall on Saturday October 10th. All shows commence at 8pm sharp. Admission for the Lissadell Church and Methodist Church shows is on the door; booking for the Kilmacowen Hall show is on 071 – 913 3289
