Auditions: Males for the Bog and the Boardroom Needed
Sligo Drama Circle is planning to produce two very contrasting plays this summer and we are looking for actors. The first play to be produced is Noel Cowards comedy, “Present Laughter“, set in England in the late 1930’s. It will be on the Hawks Well stage from July 7th to 11th.
The plot centres on Garry Essendine, well-known comic actor. As he prepares to travel to Africa for a touring commitment, he finds his life catching up with him. Casual affairs come back to haunt him; his estranged wife and devoted but disapproving secretary want to manage him and the wife of his producer wants to seduce him. Add to this a slightly crazed young playwright who wants a piece of him, and you have a classic Noel Coward comedy.
We are looking for male actors between 35 and 50 to audition for the role of Garry Essendine, self-obsessed actor and a bit of a womaniser! As you can imagine, it is a comic role and is a treat for any actor to play.
Later in the summer Sligo Drama Circle is going to produce an Irish one-act play “The Shadow of the Glen” by John Millington Synge, at various venues in Sligo town. This well-known play is set in an isolated farmhouse in Ireland at the turn of 20th century. A woman is tending to the corpse of her dead husband when a tramp comes to the door. The woman leaves the tramp to tend the corpse and while she’s gone the tramp discovers that the man isn’t dead at all! We are also looking for male actors for this play.
Auditions for both of these plays will be held on this coming Monday, 23rd March at 7.30pm in the Sligo Drama Circle rehearsal space in the Market Yard.
