Spring Drama Season
The first practical step towards building Sligo’s new theatre – on a prime site donated by the Bishop of Elphin, Dr. Conway – will be taken this month when the Circle launches its Spring Season. The first production will be Men Without Shadows, by Frenchman Jean Paul Sartre. The play will be directed by Liam Mc Kinney and it is a new departure for the group as this is the first time they will stage a “European” play.
New talent has again been recruited by Liam Mc Kinney, and making their stage debut will be Tony Wehrly, Martin Doonan and Barney O’ Reilly, alongside such familiar names as Lionel Gallagher, Manus Sheilds, Robert Burnside, Mick Kilcoyne, Columb Mc Bride, John Caheny and Eddie O’ Reilly. Maria Mc Dermottroe is the only female member of the cast. The Drama Circle are hoping to interest all the people of Sligo Town and surrounding areas in their theatre project, and this Spring, they are full of hope for the future and are confident of local support. By the way, their next play in the Spring Season will be “The Mother” which will be directed by Eily Kilgannon.
